Satoshi Nakamoto? Who is the mystery founder?

Satoshi Nakamoto is the anonymous creator of the cryptocurrency Bitcoin. Their true identity remains unknown, but several individuals have been speculated to be Satoshi.

Hal Finney

Hal Finney is a computer scientist and software developer who worked at PGP Corporation and was an early contributor to Bitcoin. He received the first Bitcoin transaction from Satoshi Nakamoto and was a cypherpunk and had stated.

It seemed so obvious to me: "Here we are faced with the problems of loss of privacy, creeping computerization, massive databases, more centralization - and [David] Chaum offers a completely different direction to go in, one which puts power into the hands of individuals rather than governments and corporations. The computer can be used as a tool to liberate and protect people, rather than to control them."

Rumoured lived in California, where another person rumoured to be Satoshi, Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto, also resided. However, Finney is considered by many to be the most likely candidate to be Satoshi.

Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto

Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto is a physicist who worked as a systems engineer on classified defense projects and a computer engineer for technology and financial services information. He was laid off in the 1990s and turned libertarian.

In a 2014 article from Newsweek, journalist Leah McGrath Goodman identified Dorian as the man behind the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. However, Satoshi made a post on the P2P Foundation account stating he is not Dorian Nakamoto.

Nick Szabo

Nick Szabo is a decentralized currency enthusiast who published a paper on "bit-gold," a precursor to Bitcoin. He denied being Satoshi, but in 2011, he stated that he, Wei Dai, and Hal Finney were the only people he knew of who pursued the idea of a decentralized currency until Nakamoto.
