What are Memecoins?

Seizing the memes of production.

A memecoin is a cryptocurrency that originated from an internet meme.

Memes are a very powerful social and marketing tool, and leveraged correctly can be extremely beneficial.

We have seen major companies embracing memes in marketing campaigns.

But more importantly they have become a driving force in the Cryptocurrency ecosystem.

The biggest example of a memecoin is Dogecoin. Created in 2013 as a joke on the Doge meme by software engineers.

This sparked an influx of subsequent meme coins, Shiba Inu, Pepecoin.

Memecoins surged in popularity in 2022 after Dogecoin was endorsed by Elon Musk. he continues to tweet about Dogecoin, this however often leads to manipulation in prices.

Memcoins are often void of any utility or plan for building, and are more than no scams and just created as pump-and-dump schemes.

Supporters of the movement observe that memecoins have acquired social currency and high market capitalisation.

It is important to do your own research and understand the risks when investing in cryptocurrency meme coins.
