HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE
Like a lot of spaces on the internet, slang gets thrown around. Whether it be the twitch and gaming space with “W” “L” “GG”.
Cryptocurrency culture is no expectation, embracing “gm” (used in NFT space), “diamond hands”, and most importantly “HODL”.
“HODL” of “Holding” refers to holding a cryptocurrency rather than selling it. Often implying a bullish position.
The saying stands for “HOLD on FOR DEAR LIFE”.
And originated in 2013 on a bitcoin forum post from a drunk user saying “I AM HODLING”
From this it has become the cornerstone of cryptocurrency pop culture.
Buying and holding is an investment strategy as old as time.
This is when an investor buys an asset such as real-estate to hold long term despite volatility.
HOLDING is a bullish position, and implies the value of the investment will increase in value.
HODLing makes perfect sense to have as a saying for cryptocurrency as its value is often volatile.
You might look at this and say, seems like a foolish position.
But real believers in the technology are always HODLers, and its more than likely you are too.
Thanks
